Questions to be answered
How can the challenges, successes, and opportunities encountered by developers, users, and accreditors of drones and self-driving vehicles in both EU and non-EU countries guide the effective standardization of legal, regulatory, and technological frameworks?
Description
This workshop's main objective is to explore how to standardize legal, regulatory, and technological pathways for autonomous vehicles and drones, while enhancing cross-fertilization between these two modalities. By addressing shared challenges—such as safety, public acceptance, and regulatory alignment—and examining unique solutions in each domain, participants will discover how innovations in one field can inspire advancements in the other.
Success stories will showcase how collaboration, policy frameworks, and technological breakthroughs have driven progress in both sectors. Insights from new EU policies will highlight opportunities for harmonizing regulations and accelerating innovation on a global scale.
This workshop offers a platform to learn from the challenges, successes, and strategies of developers, users, and accreditors in both fields, creating a space for knowledge exchange and synergy.
Organisation of the WS
This workshop offers a focused and interactive exploration of the challenges, opportunities, and future directions for autonomous vehicles and drones, emphasizing cross-fertilization between these transformative technologies, with the intention of Standardizing Legal, Regulatory, Tech Paths for Autonomous vehicles/drones.
The session will begin with a 10-minute introduction by the organizers, outlining the workshop's objectives and highlighting the importance of leveraging synergies between drones and autonomous vehicles.
Next, a series of presentations (40 minutes) will explore critical topics, including:
- Common challenges in policy frameworks and public acceptance.
- Case studies of successful solutions.
- Leveraging success stories across modalities.
- Regulatory and legal landscapes, with a focus on navigating EU and global policies.
This will be followed by a 20-minute panel discussion exploring Future Opportunities—Sustainability and Beyond, where panelists and participants will discuss emerging trends and long-term visions on legal frameworks, ethical aspects and tech pathways for these technologies.
Both the presentations and panel discussion will be highly interactive, featuring Q&A sessions and live polls to prioritize topics and engage attendees actively.
The workshop will conclude with a 10-minute wrap-up, summarizing key insights, identifying actionable next steps, and setting the stage for future collaboration through knowledge sharing and collaborative programs and projects.
Intended outcome
The workshop aims to identify actionable insights and strategies for standardizing legal, regulatory, and technological frameworks for autonomous vehicles and drones, facilitating cross-modal innovation and collaboration.
